Our tips for Aqaba

  • Drinking beyond water: Alcohol is forbidden under Islam, so you’ll find it hard to get any from markets or small cafes. There are, however, some bars that cater for international visitors with a range of alcohol options on offer.
  • Keep the swimwear to the beach: Aqaba is a holiday resort so it’s fine to wear casual dress in the resorts and on the beach. And that’s really where swimwear should stay, not out when you are exploring significant places like Petra."

Good to know

Head to Aqaba for the final few months of the year (September to November) as this is when the temperatures go down but be warned this is when the prices do go up. Summer can be extremely hot.
