Overview

Explore the world of Vietnam’s incredible local produce as well as insights into one of the best Asian cuisines with an interactive visit to the Tra Que Vegetable Village, an invigorating foot massage and a fantastic cooking lesson with a local family.

Our day begins with a picturesque bicycle ride through the beautiful Hoi An countryside, landing up first at a fresh local market. The market is not just a perfect place to familiarize yourself with a fantastic array of local ingredients but also purchase some of the freshest produce you can find to take back home. After our trip to the market, we get back on our bicycles to continue exploring the scenic suburbs, crossing verdant rice paddies and Japanese tombs from World War II. You can not only take in the dazzling views and soak up the fresh air, but also watch the farmers going about their daily work, and observe how meticulously they grow produce we consume on a daily basis as well as some of the elements you would be using while cooking later in the day.

Once you reach the main village - home to almost 150 farmers and 400 owners who cultivate about 40 hectares of land with vegetables, herbs and spices – we will treat you to a glass of utterly fresh basil juice. Savor the rejuvenating drink, take a stroll through the village and interact with the people to get a taste of their lives as well as cultivation culture. After that, it’s time to dawn a local’s hat (like literally, you know!) and get down and dirty at the fields. Experience the Tra Que way of life as you join farmers at the field and give the grassroots life a shot, joining in activities like raking the ground, sowing, watering greens, transplanting, and tending greens. You will also learn how to naturally protect developing vegetables from predatory pests and their indigenous secret - harvesting seaweed that grows locally in the river to treat the plants.

Having sampled the agricultural life, sit back and put your feet up as we indulge you in a traditionally therapeutic footbath using medicinal herbs - an exemplary way to not just shake off the day’s heat but also release all the pent up stress our lifestyles dump on us every day. Post an amazing refresher, we will head out to cook up a storm with our local chef. Skilled in native Vietnamese style of cooking with a plethora of recipes in his kitty, he will take us through the magic of this world famous cuisine and teach us how to prepare two extremely popular dishes - Tam H?u or spring rolls and Bánh Xèo or crispy fried pancakes. Set your senses free to sink in to the sights, sounds and flavors of two dishes integral to Southeast Asian cuisine, and make sure you pick up all the tricks and techniques to rustle up some of the best pancakes and spring rolls back at home too. Once the cooking is done, we will sit down to relish our labor of love and dig into our delectable Vietnamese lunch as our host fills us in with fascinating stories and anecdotes about the country’s culinary legacy.

An unforgettable day spent nestled in the laps of Mama Nature, we will them comfortably drop you back to your hotel.
