Overview

Experience the rural side of Malaysia and witness a unique spectacle of watching thousands of fireflies blinking in the dark during a trip to Kuala Selangor. Indulge in local spices and seafood with dinner at a traditional fishing village and take a scenic ride in a typical Malay wooden row boat.

Depart from your hotel in Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon and enjoy a 2-hour drive to Kuala Selangor, a traditional fishing village with one of the largest firefly colonies in the world.

On arrival at Kuala Selangor, visit “Kota Melawati” formerly known as “Fort Altingsburg” and see the execution block, royal mausoleum and colonial buildings. A popular weekend attraction, Bukit Melawati (Melawati Hill) was once a stronghold for the Selangor Sultanate and has a fascinating history. The hill also affords a fabulous view of the Selangor coastline.

The bird sanctuary park at the foot of Bukit Melawati is an ideal place for bird watchers to watch migratory birds. Also found are silvered – leaf monkeys, butterflies etc.

At dusk, you will head to a fishing village for a sumptuous seafood dinner before proceeding to Kampung Kuantan for a ride in a typical Malay wooden row boat.

Row upstream in a small un-motorised boat (tongkang) in the quiet darkness to witness the ‘blinking trees’. Take in the breathtaking spectacle of thousands of luminescent fireflies blinking in the darkness of the mangrove swamp of Kampung Kuantan. The skilled local oarsmen make this experience a memorable and unforgettable one.

After the fireflies experience you will be taken back to Kuala Lumpur and dropped off at your hotel.
