Overview

The best bites in Lisbon are found in the streets and hole-in-the-wall cafés and this group tour, run by Lisbon Steps, takes you on a culinary ride around the city’s ‘must eats.’ To begin with, the Mercado da Ribeira market is an obvious choice. Set up way back in 1892, you will find shops selling fresh products – fish, veggies, spices, etc, and houses a food court where expert chefs create magic on their woks using local food brands.

Next up, we will take a traditional lift-tram to Lisbon’s bohemian district, Biarro Alto, for a tasty ‘petisco’ and a glass of refreshing Portuguese white wine. Walk up to Chiado where the guide will show you the chic cafés that not only offer great food but also hides some great history. Listen to all of the fascinating stories till we hit the oldest brewery in the city, a unique restaurant built from the ruins of one of the largest and oldest convents in Lisbon.

The best things come in the end. As you head towards Rossio, enjoy the great view over the Castle Hill from the steps of Calçada do Duque and reach Downtown, a vintage gourmet shop. Learn as well as taste some delicious Portuguese products – cheeses, hams, sausages, Port wine and the revered Bacalhau (dried and salted!). A Lisbon food tour cannot conclude with a heady drink of Portuguese cherry liquor, the Ginjinha and have it at the place where it was first sold in 1840.
