Overview
Over 2,000 kilometres of aqueduct-like levadas web Madeira, delivering much-needed water to the dry south-west of the island. They also double up as scenic walking trails. On this day-long walking tour, you'll follow the path of one of the prettiest levadas in Madeira as it winds through the natural park of Ribeiro Frio. This one starts its life in the northern hills of the island, where mountains and valleys come cloaked in prehistoric forest. Laurel trees hide away tiny birds like chaffinches and Trocaz pigeons, and you might glimpse the shine of salmon beneath the flowing water. As for panoramas, you'll have a bird's eye view of the parish of Porto da Cruz and Eagle's Rock far below. The paths can be a tad uneven, so we recommend packing sturdy walking shoes
