Set out from Avignon at dawn and climb aboard a comfortable minivan as your local guide escorts you through the rolling hills of Provence, toward lavender country. Your first stop is a lively Provencal market - a chance to taste local produce and soak up authentic regional atmosphere. Then drive to either Sault (the “lavender capital”) or Roussillon, depending on bloom times, where purple fields stretch under open skies. Nestled on the border of a great wooded plateau, the village of Sault affords spectacular views of immense blue lavender fields alternating with fields of wheat. Wander the village, browse lavender shops, and capture stunning photos among the fragrant rows. The journey continues to the hilltop village Gordes, one of France’s most beautiful places, perched above Provencal landscape, before ending at the iconic Sénanque Abbey, framed by lavender in full bloom.
