Overview

On this historic sightseeing tour of Beijing, you can fully absorb the rich heritage of this ancient city.

Lama Temple (Yonghegong) is an elegant temple and lamasery. Once the residence of a royal court, this vibrantly ornamented temple is one of the largest and most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the world.

On this tour you can also see the most important living treasure of China; the Giant Panda in Panda Garden at the Beijing Zoo. The inside of the garden replicates the style of traditional Chinese gardens.

Visit Summer Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and also the largest and best-preserved imperial garden in China. One of Beijing’s finest parks surrounds the palace, which also has the world’s longest art gallery.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel and taken in an air-conditioned coach for a historical sightseeing tour of some of the famous landmarks in Beijing. An English-speaking tour guide will accompany you on this tour.

The highlights of your tour are:

Lama Temple: Begin your tour at the Yonghe Lamasery or the Lama Temple; one of the best examples of the regions many sacred temples. Lama Temple reveals diverse architectural styles from Han, Mongolia, Manchuria and Tibet. There is also an impressive 60-foot Maitreya Buddha, carved from a single sandalwood tree.

Continue to the Beijing Zoo, and visit the Panda Garden, home to the giant panda. See other endangered species such as the Golden Monkey in the zoo.

Stop for a delicious lunch in a local restaurant.

Travel to the Summer Palace. Explore the largest and most impressive royal garden in China and the former retreat of emperors for 800 years. The Summer Palace is virtually a museum of traditional Chinese gardening that uses rocks, plants, pavilions, ponds and cobble paths to create a poetic effect between different scenes. When you stroll around the Summer Palace, you will constantly find the area changing.

Round off your tour with a shopping excursion to the White Peacock Silk Carpet Factory.

At the end of the tour, you will be transported back to your hotel in Beijing.
