Overview

This tour combines two of the most popular destinations north of Beijing into one unforgettable experience.

The Great Wall is a marvel of ancient Chinese engineering, and one of the enduring wonders of the world. The Badaling section is a prime, preserved example of this colossal structure, and you will have the opportunity to climb up either the North or South Face of the Wall. The wall, listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, with an average altitude of over 1,000 meters was an ancient military stronghold. The wall is a magnificent creation that will take your breath away.

Visit the Ming Tombs, burial grounds to 13 of the 16 Ming emperors. Explore the largest of the excavated burial sites, the Changling Tomb, which is divided into three separate courtyards. Lunch is included in the tour, along with a shopping spree at the world-renowned Bohua Jade Factory.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel and taken in an air-conditioned coach for a sightseeing tour of the Great Wall, Ming Tombs and the Spirit Way. An English-speaking tour guide will accompany you on this tour.

The highlights of the tour are:

Badaling Great Wall: Arrive at Badaling, the closest section of the Great Wall to Beijing. The Wall is about 80 kilometres Northwest from downtown Beijing. Begin your trek along this historic route. The Badaling section of Great Wall is about 3.7 kilometres long and 8 metres high. The hike will take you up a steep slope but the effort will be worth it as you feast your eyes on the spectacular views from the top.

Stop for lunch in a local restaurant near the Great Wall.

Spirit Way: Travel north towards the Ming Tombs and arrive at the Spirit Way, also known as the Sacred Way. The entire tomb site is surrounded by a wall, and a seven- kilometre long, winding road named the "Spirit Way" leads into the complex. The path, slightly curved to fool evil spirits, is lined on either side with willows and remarkable carved stone animals and human figures, considered among the best in China. The statues along the Sacred Way include pairs of camels, lions, elephants, and mythical beasts.

Ming Tombs: The Sacred Way ends at a pavilion sheltering a stone tablet, and leads to the Ming Tombs. The 13 tombs of Ming emperors are located in a 40km2 area, enclosed by the mountains in a pristine, quiet valley full of dark earth, tranquil water and other necessities as per feng shui. The tombs are one of the finest preserved pieces of 15th century Chinese art and architecture.

Bohua Jade Factory: Round up your trip with a shopping spree at the world-renowned Bohua Jade Factory.

At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel in Beijing.
