Overview

Carara National Park, which derives its name from the indigenous Huetar language meaning "River of Lizards", is home to the only transitional forest in the Central Pacific. This unique ecosystem boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, where species from dry and humid forests are found in close proximity.


Get ready to be amazed by the incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica's birds! This incredible country is home to approximately 48% of the Costa Rican bird species, offering bird watching enthusiasts the chance to observe some truly magnificent creatures.


From the stunning scarlet macaws to the elegant aracaris, the colourful toucans, the graceful herons, the majestic egrets, the impressive tinamous, the fierce vultures and so much more, there's a whole world of birds to discover! Your guide will be with you every step of the way, sharing their knowledge and excitement about the different sights and sounds you'll encounter on this incredible 2-mile hike. Get ready to be blown away by the sheer beauty and diversity of Costa Rica's birds!


We will make a short stop at an observatory along the way, where you can rest and take some truly amazing photos! The Tarcoles River marks the northern boundary of the park, and the bridge that crosses it is the perfect spot to get up close and personal with the largest crocodile population in the country!
