Marvel at some of Lisbon’s most charming and beautiful squares and famous statues, including a tribute to Dom Pedro IV.

Drive down the Avenida de Liberdade or Liberty Avenue to Rossio, one of the most beautiful squares in Lisbon. Marvel at the statue of Dom Pedro IV, located in the middle of the square. The four female figures at the foot represent Justice, Wisdom, Strength and Moderation.

Visit the oldest district in Lisbon, Alfama. This charming district has a typical Arabian medina-like feel to it.

Drive along the river-side to admire the Black Horse Square, here you will get to see the statue of King Jose I. Crossing the bridge and over the Tagus River, you continue to Belem, a treasure trove for history and architecture. This is the place from where the great voyager Vasco da Gama set sail in 1497 to discover the sea route to India. Visit the Jeronimos Monastery which was constructed to celebrate the triumph of Vasco da Gama. Its fascinating architecture attracts tourists from all around the world.

Close by stands the Torres de Belem or the Tower of Belem, a UNESCO world heritage site, which symbolised the ‘Age of Discoveries’. It was built by Manuel I to protect the entrance to the harbour of Lisbon.
