Overview
Live the high life in Monaco and discover a wealth of rustic villages and modern marinas along the way during this intriguing day trip from Nice. Admire the harbour town of Villefranche and its beautiful bay before the first stop at the picture-postcard hamlet of Èze. Continue to the millionaires’ playground of Monaco to see the changing of the guard at the prince’s palace and for a guided tour of Monte Carlo.
As the tour departs Nice, pause for a moment at Mont Boron and enjoy the panoramic views over the Old Town and Nice Castle. On the other side of the mountain is Villefranche, a picturesque resort situated on a breathtaking bay framed by verdant hills. It has two historic fortifications, the Fort du Mont Alban and the Citadel of Saint-Elme, a relic of its position on the crossroads between France and Italy.
Arrive at the hilltop hamlet of Èze, perched high above Cap Ferrat, and wander its winding, cobbled alleys. Whereas Monaco is famed for its flashy wealth, this area is renowned for being where the discreet and understated seek refuge. Admire timeless stone houses and pass under ancient arches as you browse artisanal shops and visit a perfumerie.
Continue to Monaco and explore the Old Town before heading to the Prince’s Palace for the changing of the guard ceremony. (An optional palace tour is available from June to October.) Visit Saint Nicholas Cathedral, the final resting place of royals including Grace Kelly, and enjoy a guided stroll through Monte Carlo.
