Excursion to the Cotopaxi National Park

They say the early bird takes the worm. That is why we begin this tour early in the morning. Hop aboard the bus for a short drive towards the train station located in the southern part of Quito. From there, alongside the locals, board a train that will trundle for almost a leisurely couple of hours from Quito to Machachi. The sights you will pass along the way more than compensate the duration of the ride.

Once in Machachi, take the very last bus that drops you off at your destination, the colossal Cotopaxi. Explore this active volcano of more than 5.000 metres in height. Throughout the time you will spend in this national park, as well as wandering around its vast natural environments, enjoy also a visit to its very interesting museum. Learn all about the entourage’s background, plants and animals. Finally, make a stop at the amazing Limpiopungo lagoon, which reflects the flirtatious sky like a natural mirror. Last but not least, continue towards a typical hacienda, Spanish for “estate,” where you can visit its installations and learn all about its interesting history. Relax as you return to Quito in the afternoon.
