Britannia Mine Museum, 1 Forbes Way, Britannia Beach, BC VON 1 JO, Canada
Don your hard hats and go underground during a visit to the Britannia Mine Museum!
With your Britannia Mine Museum tickets, you can learn about the mining history of British Columbia. In the most fruitful years of the Britannia mines, there were 60,000 people living and working in the area and the Brittannia Mine served as the largest copper mine in the British Empire. A lot of that has since changed and the site has been turned into a non-profit museum. Hopping on a real mine cart and following in the footsteps of hard-working miners is what to do in Vancouver when you have a passion for precious metals and stones!
Listen as your knowledgeable guide recalls the perils and challenges miners faced in order to make a living, sometimes risking their own lives in the process. A feature film also delves into the history of Britannia, the geography of the region, and the importance of mining in today’s world. You can even see a display of a magnificent “jewel box”, with its precious stones and gold collected from the mountain. Then, try your hand at panning gold and see if you catch gold fever. The best part is that you can keep what you find! And, that’s why a taking a trip to the Britannia Mine Museum is one of the best things to do in Vancouver!
