Sihlquai Bus Station
This tour is the perfect introduction to Zurich. Here, you'll see the highlights of Switzerland's largest city from comfortable coach seating. The tour lasts approximately 2 1/4 hours, and offers live commentary in English and German.
What's the plan:
The tour starts from Sihlquai bus parking (near Zurich main train station). Following that, accompanied by a bi-lingual guide who will give live comments in English and German, you will be taken on a city tour of Zurich.
You will pass through Bahnhofstrasse (station street), one of the world’s most expensive and exclusive shopping avenues. Further on, proceed to the popular shopping street of Limmatquai and you will come across elegant old-guild houses. Visit Lindenhof, situated between Bahnhofstrasse and the left bank of Limmatquai. It is the site of a Roman fort and later of an imperial stronghold.
You will see a fountain in the square that immortalizes a day in 1292 when the women of Zurich saved the city from the invaders. It is believed that when the city was on the verge of defeat, women resolute to avoid humiliation, donned armour and marched up to Lindenhof. Visit the largest church clock-face of Europe in St. Peter, the guild-houses and the lake (photo ops).
Enjoy a scenic drive through Zürichberg district with views of the city, the lake and the Alps.
As you further explore, you will come across elegant mansions, the University and Grossmunster (photo op) – a magnificent Romanesque and gothic cathedral, with a high Romanesque cloister. Visit the Fraumunster Church, founded in 853 AD by King Louis the German. The church was largely patronized by the kings and had the right to mint coins in Zurich until the 13th century. Appreciate its stunning stained glass windows by renowned French painter, Marc Chagall.
Finally after a short introduction to the Old Town at the Fraumünster Church, the city tour will end here or at the Sihlquai bus parking.
Please call the local activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
