Surrounded by red earth and the picturesque mountain ranges, Alice Springs is considered the beating heart of Australia's Red Centre. There’s much to explore in this Outback town on a guided day tour to its most significant attractions. A gateway to the Northern Territory and the Outback, the town of Alice Springs is the window to understanding the culture and history of Aboriginal Australia.
Explore Australia’s most famous outback town, visit some of its historic sites and some of the essential services delivered from Alice to the community of this vast region. Visit the Historic Telegraph Station, Royal Flying Doctors Service, School of the Air and the Alice Springs Reptile Park. Travel to Anzac Hills to admire panoramic views over Alice Springs and the West MacDonnell Ranges.
The central Australian capital of Alice Springs is a pleasant combination of rich heritage and modern facilities. This Alice Springs tour provides the perfect introduction to this incredible city.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Alice Springs and taken for this sightseeing tour in an air conditioned vehicle. Your driver is also your guide for this tour.
You will see:
School of the Air: The school is an important part of the history of Alice Springs. Opened in 1951, it has been broadcasting to children of isolated communities throughout a 1.3 million square kilometre 'classroom'. Interpretive displays demonstrate the important role it has in the Outback and on school days you can hear lessons being broadcast.
Historic Telegraph Station: This is a popular and recommended attraction for people interested in the history of the outback. Alice Springs obtained its name from the waterhole at the Overland Telegraph Station established in 1872 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide. This historical reserve marks the original site of the first European settlement in Alice Springs.
Royal Flying Doctors Service: Royal Flying Doctors Service is the perfect way to develop an understanding of the lifestyles of people living in the outback and the hardships they face everyday.
Alice Springs Reptile Park: At the Alice Springs Reptile Park you will see unique Central Australian reptiles, such as the Perentie Lizard and Thorny Devil.
Anzac Hill: This is the most visited site in Alice Springs and offers incredible views of the city.
