Overview

Nestled inside the gorgeous Nitmiluk National Park, Katherine Gorge is a picture of Nature’s raw power. This full day tour takes you on a trail through the park, visiting Edith Falls, Nitmiluk Visitor Centre and tons of rock art site, cruising through Katherine Gorge and a visit to the Adelaide River War Cemetery. 

Spanning over 292,000 hectares and home to rugged landscapes, thundering waterfalls and unlimited flora and fauna, Nitmiluk is a haven for adventurers, nature lovers and cultural aficionados alike. The site traditionally belongs to the Jawoyn people who named it Nitmiluk, literally translating to ‘Cicada Place’.

Here’s all the exciting experiences you can look forward to on this tour!

  • Pay homage to Aussie war heroes of World War II at the Adelaide River War Cemetery.

  • Drive through the longest highway in Australia, the Stuart Highway, which is also known as ‘the Explorer’s Way’.

  • Surrender yourself to serene ambiance engulfing the Leliyn or Edith Falls and even indulge in a refreshing swim (during the dry season only) at the lovely waterhole.

  • Admire numerous ancient aboriginal rock art which visually express the deep spirituality of the Jawoyn people, all while learning about their traditions and history.

  • Head to the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre to browse through photographs, memorabilia and traditional Aboriginal artefacts.

  • Relish a two hour cruise through the towering sandstone walls of Katherine Gorge while digging into the spectacular panoramas and a fantastic chance to spot freshwater crocodiles as well as an incredible birdlife.

Don’t forget to report at the meeting point or pickup location at least 20 minutes before the start time to avoid any last minute rush.

It is recommended that you carry sunglasses, a hat, some sunscreen, a water bottle, some warmer layers of clothing for the cooler months as well as swimming costumes and towels if you are interested in a dip.

Although the activity requires a low level of fitness, there is an 800m walk between Gorges to change boats, so don’t forget to wear enclosed, sturdy walking shoes.
