Duration: 1 night, 1 -2 days, depending on your flight times
You will be dropped back at the airport
The tour starts with a pick-up at the airport and a transfer to a comfortable 3-star hotel in Foz do Iguassu. You will be picked up from your hotel at a time that suits you and taken out to see the sights.
Located on the border between Brazil and Argentina, Iguassu Falls are truly spectacular, being taller and wider than Niagara. From the Brazilian side you can enjoy awe-inspiring panoramas of the roaring cataracts, cliffs and islets.
After seeing one of Mother Nature’s finest creations, you will visit a man-made marvel – the magnificent Itaipu Dam – the largest operational hydroelectric power plant in the world.
Gaze awestruck at this monumental creation – a feat of engineering so impressive that it was recognised as one of the ‘Modern Wonders of the World’ in 1994.
At the end of the tour, you will be taken to your hotel and from there you will be transferred to the airport.
Your Iguassu Falls & Itaipu Dam Package Tour includes one night in a 3 star hotel, the Iguassu Waterfalls Tour, Itaipu Dam tour and roundtrip airport transfers. The timing of the tour as well as the order in which the different activities are done depends on the time of your flights and your personal preference. The itinerary given below is just a suggestion and can be altered to suit your needs.
You will be met at Cataratas International Airport and taken directly to your hotel. English-speaking staff will greet you when you clear the airport luggage area – just look for the local representative holding a sign with your name on it. You can discuss the precise details of your tour with the representative who collects you from the hotel.
Check in at your hotel. If it is evening time you might like to just rest and relax. If you arrive early in the day you may like to start sightseeing immediately.
You will stay the night in a comfortable 3-star hotel. Dinner is available at the hotel (payable direct) or you might like to go out to a restaurant in town.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Afterwards, you will be picked up at the time pre-arranged with the local activity operator and driven to the Iguassu National Park. An English-speaking guide will accompany you. Please note that the activities described below may be undertaken in a different sequence if that fits in better with your flight time or personal preference.
Located on the Iguazú River, on the border between Brazil and Argentina, Iguassu Falls are the result of a volcanic eruption which left a large crack in the earth. They are higher than Niagara and twice as wide, with 275 cascading waterfalls spread out in a horseshoe fashion covering nearly 2 miles. During the rainy season, between November and March, the rate of water flow over the falls can reach over 450,000 cubic feet (12,750 cubic m) per second.
The name Iguassu comes from the Guaraní Indian word meaning ‘great water’. This delightful tour allows you to experience the awesome spectacle of the Iguassu from the Brazilian side of the river.
From the Brazilian side you can see stunning panoramas of the Falls and magnificent views of the famous feature known as The Devil´s Throat (or ‘Garganta del Diablo’). Here, 14 falls drop 350 feet with such force that a 100-foot tall cloud of mist is permanently suspended overhead.
For a close-up view, walk through the subtropical forest of Iguassu National Park to the base of Salto Floriano and take the elevator to the top of the Falls, or walk out over the Falls at Salto Union.
At midday, you will enjoy a delightful buffet lunch in a restaurant. This is included in your tour price.
Next, you will be taken to visit the largest operational hydroelectric power plant in the world. Built on the Paraná River near the border between Brazil and Paraguay, the plant generates a power of 12,600 megawatts, that’s 25 per cent of the electricity consumed by Brazil and 95 per cent of the energy consumed by Paraguay.
The dam is a magnificent feat of engineering by any standards. The volume of concrete used in the reservoir could construct 210 stadiums the size of Maracaná and the iron and the steel would be enough to construct a building 380 times the size of the Eiffel Tower.
It’s therefore not surprising that, in 1994, the American Society of Civil Engineers elected the Itaipu Dam as one of the seven modern Wonders of the World!
You will be shown a short film about Itaipu and its amazing history before boarding a bus for a guided tour which explains the significance of the dam and the operation of the plant. The bus will stop at a central lookout where you will be able to see the plant and its incredible structures including the gigantic pressure tubes.
At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel. At the appropriate time, a vehicle will meet you at your hotel and take you directly to the airport for your flight home.
Please call the activity operator when you arrive in Brazil, or at least 48 hours prior to start of the tour, to re-confirm your flight times and the name of your hotel.
When you are picked up at the airport, you are handed a voucher for your tour. Please discuss the detailed itinerary for your tour with the representative who picks you up from the airport
