Overview


Kuala Selangor is located about an hour’s drive away from Kuala Lumpur along a muddy coastline fringed with mangrove swamps. What makes this place spectacular is the opportunity to witness fireflies lighting up the river at night. Cruise on a boat along the Selangor river in the night to capture the beauty of this natural wonder. Unlike all other beetles, fireflies have a remarkable ability to produce a synchronous flashing light from their lower abdomen during the night time.

In a matter of moments, the darkness is punctuated with the fabulous display of thousands of fairy like lights of the fireflies lining the shore. Fireflies are found in abundance in the Mangrove (Berembang) trees, along the lower reaches of Selangor River. Nearly thousands of fireflies group together on a tree, beginning their synchronized display about one hour after sunset. A really bright display can last for about two to three hours, continuing at lower levels until dawn.

Enjoy the spectacle of whole trees being lit up like ‘Christmas trees’. Watch this spectacular natural display and see the stars descend on earth and yourself clicked in this moment!

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel in Kuala Lumpur Central and taken to see the famous fireflies of Kuala Selangor. 

Reach the jetty by sunset. Board a boat from the jetty to go upstream to the mangrove of Berembang trees. Nearly thousands of fireflies group together on a tree, beginning their display about one hour after sunset. A really bright display lasts for about two to three hours, continuing at lower levels until dawn. Enjoy the spectacle of whole trees being lit up like ‘Christmas trees’. Don't miss the chance to see this unusual nighttime phenomenon which is also makes for some interesting photography

Return to the jetty by boat. You will be transferred from the jetty back to your hotel.

Like many nature’s great events, the display of the flashing fireflies is influenced by weather conditions.

the boat ride to watch the display of fireflies is on a sharing basis whilst transfer is on a private vehicle.

Mosquitoes come out more in the evening and at night, so it is essential that you bring along insect repellent.
