Overview

Founded in 1403, the Sultanate of Malacca was once the greatest and most powerful empire and seaport in South East Asia. The Portuguese, Dutch and British ruled over Malacca's silk and spice trade. This rich heritage is evident in the unique mix of architectural styles in the buildings found all over the area.

Relive history as you walk through the city’s historic buildings including the Stadthuys, St. Paul’s Church and the mighty fortress - Porta de Santiago, built by the Portuguese in 1512. Then, you may stroll along the Jonker Street, known for its antiques, souvenirs, arts and crafts.

The small city-state of Malacca is a fascinating multicultural place where you can glimpse what makes Malaysia such a desirable destination. Malacca remains one of the most rewarding experiences for the visitor whether it is food, architecture or culture.
