On this luxury, private chauffeur-driven tour, you will discover the breathtaking beauty of this region for yourself.
Drive alongside the glassy emerald waters of Lake Fuschl with its picturesque castle to the pretty village of St. Gilgen, where Mozart’s mother was born. Arriving at St. Gilgen, take a boat across the Wolfgangsee to the village of St. Wolfgang. Sniff the fresh air and enjoy the mountain views on the way.
At St. Wolfgang, marvel at the glorious 15th century altarpiece by Michael Pacher, one of the earliest artists to introduce the principles of Renaissance painting into Germany.
The return journey to Salzburg takes you along Mondsee, another beautiful lake. The ever-changing scenery will make this an unforgettable tour.
With your private chauffeur-driven vehicle you don’t have to worry about navigating or parking. Plan the day your way and enjoy sightseeing and exploring to your heart’s content.
For your Salzkammergut, St Gilgen & St Wolfgang Private Tour you can be picked up from your hotel in Salzburg City Center, or alternatively you can meet your car at Mirabellplatz, whichever is most convenient. You will be chauffeured by a driver/guide speaking German & English. Depending on the size of your party you will travel in a mini-van (8-seats).
On leaving Salzburg you will head for Austria’s famous “Lake District” and drive along lovely Lake Fuschl, with its clear emerald green waters and picturesque castle. Lake Fuschl is one of the best-loved lakes in the region and has inspired numerous artists, such as Ludwig Richter, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller und Heinrich August Noé.
You will arrive in the village of St. Gilgen on the north-western shore of the Wolfgangsee (Lake Wolfgang). Mozart’s grandfather worked in the town, his mother was born there, and his sister Nannerl moved there after her marriage.
In St. Gilgen you will board a boat (payable direct) for a 40-minute journey to St.Wolfgang.
As you sail from St. Gilgen, you pass a palatial building on the left. A former imperial boarding school for navy officers, this is a relic of the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. There is no Austrian navy today but the building houses an excellent international school.
Arriving at St. Wolfgang you will be able to explore the highlights of this historic village. It is famous for the “White Horse Inn” (Hotel Weißes Rössl), the setting of a musical comedy, and for its pilgrimage church with a late Gothic altarpiece by the 15th century Austrian Tyrolean painter and sculptor Michael Pacher.
The altarpiece in St. Wolfgang is Pacher’s best-known work, containing scenes from the life of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. It is considered one of the most remarkable carved and painted altar shrines in all European art.
Your route continues along Mondsee, another beautiful lake, and finally brings you back to Salzburg. This luxury tour lasts around 4 hours and, at the end, you will be dropped at your hotel or, if you prefer, at Mirabellplatz.
