Spend time in the modern city of Vergina, built on the site of Aegae, which was the first capital of Macedon. Visit the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai to see the marble tomb of King Philip II. You’ll see a golden Larnax (a small coffin) alongside an urn, marked with a 16-rayed sun, the symbol of Macedonia, which contains the king’s remains.
