Your trip to the ‘Venice of the North’ is incomplete without a trip to the famous Van Gogh Museum. Clocking more than 2 million visitors yearly, the four-storied museum houses the most famous artworks of prominent painters like Monet and Gauguin.
The best time to visit the Van Gogh Museum is April through May. You’ll have the chance to avoid the massive crowds of tourists that fly in during the summer and enjoy the best weather of the year. The months of September through November also see lesser crowds. Winter is understandably cold, but the upside is that airfare and accommodation are cheaper.
If you go by tram, the closest stops to the Van Gogh Museum are Van Baerlestraat and Museumplein. Bicycle is one of the most popular modes of transportation. And if you find yourself driving around Amsterdam, then you should use the paid Q-Park parking structure below Museumplein on Van Baerlestraat. But the best way to get around the city is with an IAmsterdam City Card. It provides unlimited use of the city’s public transit system for the duration of the validity of the card, not to mention free admission at the very museums you plan to visit.
The Van Gogh Museum opens from 9 am to 5 pm every day. On Fridays, it opens till 9 pm.
The top must-see paintings at the Van Gogh Museum are The Potato Eaters, The Harvest, The Tree Roots, Almond Blossoms, Sunflowers in Arles, The Shoes, and The Bedroom.
