Discover two starkly different yet utterly mesmerising sides of Thailand on this full day tour, taking you to the globally-renowned Damnoen Saduak Floating Market as well as the historic district of Kanchanaburi, home to the infamous Bridge over River Kwai. Driving past beautiful local scenery, time-forgotten local villages, vast farms and lush green plantations - the tour is also an absolute visual feast.
Our day begins on a refreshing note at a coconut farm where we will stop to take a look at the fascinating sugar making process and also indulge in some drinks (at your expense). Hopping onto a thrilling long-tail speedboat, we will cruise through the klongs or canals to arrive at Thailand’s most famous floating market, Damnoen Saduak. Exploring the market, not only can you check out the incredible range of local produce but also get a glimpse into life by the Mae Klong River and get a sense of why Bangkok is called the ‘Venice of Asia’.
The historic Kanchanaburi is up next, where our first stop would be to break for lunch. Our highlight of the day is probably the iconic Bridge 277 over Khwae Yai River, immortalised by the epic 1957 British/American war movie The Bridge on the River Kwai. We will take a walk along the bridge whose original wooden version was bombed in 1945 for a goosebump-inducing experience while listening to the harrowing tales of how World War II consumed the area. Moving on, we will head to the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery where close to 7000 war prisoners and martyrs have been interred, a chance to learn more about these POWs as well as pay our respects. Concluding our tryst with Thailand’s war-ravaged history, we will visit the JEATH War Museum where you can dig deeper into the harsh realities of war and observe mementos that were left behind, besides also learning about the lives of Japanese soldiers and prisoners from England, Australia, America, and Holland.
