Our tips for Great Barrier Reef

  • Visit Whitehaven Beach, the most photographed beach in all of Australia. Made up of 98 percent pure white silica, there is no heat retention which means that the sand under your feel will not feel like a bed of hot coals. Enjoy a comfortable stroll on the beach as you soak in the swirling azure shoreline.
  • Enjoy a glass bottomed boat cruise and peer down into the fascinating underwater world right beneath you. Its sure to be one of the highlights of your trip.
  • Another must-do is a scenic flight from Cairns or the Whitsundays for a macro-perspective of the reef's beauty and size.
  • Spend a few days in the Whitsundays Islands, Australia’s promised land of tropical atolls, spinnakers and daiquiri-soaked resort nights.

Good to know

June to October are the best months to visit the Great Barrier Reef. Rainfall is low, the water is clear and the temperatures hover in the low 60s to mid-80s. Hotels in the central and the southern parts of the reef offer lower rates in the winter and spring months, so make sure that you book your tours and activities well in advance to avoid missing out as there is an influx of tourists during that time.
