The Prado Museum is one of Madrid’s most popular attractions and is home to an exceptionally important royal collection, featuring one of the world’s finest collections of European art. This guided tour with skip-the-line access treats you to the chronological history, covering the works of El Bosco, El Greco, Velázquez and Goya.
As you would expect with such a popular attraction there can often be a long wait to enter the Prado Museum– however this tour allows you to skip the line! The Museo Nacional del Prado, opened to the public for the first time in November 1819. At that time it housed 311 paintings from the various Reales Sitios (Royal Residences). The exceptionally important royal collection, which represents the foundation of the Museum's collection as we know it today, started to increase significantly in the 16th century during the time of Charles V and continued to thrive under the succeeding Habsburg and Bourbon Monarchs.
Starting with the exhibit hall where the masterpieces of J. Bosch (El Bosco) (1450-1516) are displayed, you will continue to discover the works of El Greco (1540-1614) and Velázquez (1599-1660) ending with Goya (1746-1828). The tour will help you view and discuss over 15 key pieces – these include Las Meninas, The Garden of Earthly Delights, The Knight with His Hand on His Breast, The Second of May 1808 and the Holy Trinity.
