PortAventura is a pretty popular place. Did you know that you will be one of the over 4 million people who visit the theme park each year? PortAventura was the first Universal Studios theme park in Europe. But, NBCUniversal sold all shares in 2004. The total area of PortAventura World is just shy of 300 acres. That’s nearly twice the size of Disneyland and California Adventure, combined! PortAventura’s Ferrari Land is one of only two amusement parks in the world with a Ferrari theme. The other is Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
PortAventura is a theme park or resort located in Salou region of Catalonia in Spain. It features six distinct themed areas with a variety of rides and attractions, in addition to a selection of hotels and restaurants.
As mentioned, the best time to visit PortAventura is whenever the kids are in school. In terms of weather, though, you might enjoy late spring or early fall, when you can really take advantage of that mild Mediterranean climate. Try shooting for May, early June, September, or October. Mid-summer brings the heat and the crowds, so you’ll definitely want to stock up on sunscreen and should consider wearing a hat to block the sun. Winter presents no problems for a PortAventura tour. The nights will be cool and crisp, but you’ll find it’s still rather sunny during the daytime.
Getting to PortAventura is easy! If you’re coming from Barcelona, you can simply hop on the train at Barcelona Sants and arrive at PortAventura just 75 minutes later. Alternatively, you can take the bus from Barcelona Nord bus station and make one transfer to Tarragona. Taking a taxi from Barcelona to PortAventura would cost nearly $200. But, you can bus it to Tarragona and then take a $25 cab ride right up to the Port Aventura’s main gate. Finally, if you’re driving, you want to take highway A-7 before using the off-ramp that’s clearly marked for PortAventura. From Barcelona, it’ll take you about one hour and 30 minutes.
PortAventura admission fees vary based on the season and day of the week. The current pricing information can be accessed on the PortAventura website.
PortAventura's operating hours differ depending on the day of the week and time of year. Typically, the park opens at 10:00 am and closes at 7:00 pm, though it may remain open later during peak season.
While there is no formal dress code for PortAventura, it is recommended that visitors wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear that will allow them to walk and enjoy the rides comfortably.
Want to get the most bang for your buck? Consider picking up the 3-day pass, which allows you to visit the main theme park for 2 days and the water park for 1 day. That way, you receive a little discount on the ticket price.
