The Spanish steps are named so because the Spanish embassy was situated right there, and the steps were part of it. They were built in the 18th Century to connect the embassy with the Trinita Dei Monti church (which was under French patronage!)

Designed in Rococo style, Spanish Steps start from the Piazza di Spagna square to connect to the French monastery church Trinita dei Monti. Also known as Scalinata di Spagna, Spanish Steps consist of 138 steps with a mix of curves, straight lines, and terraces. Created by the architect Francesco de Sanctis, they are popular among historians and art enthusiasts for their unique design.
